Crafted from an organic material that is made in Switzerland , the Almost-Tortoise pick precisely duplicates the incredible tone of real tortoise, but doesn’t chip like tortoise can. Plus, it lasts much longer…all at a fraction of the cost of tortoise.
Interestingly, these picks were originally available in the mid 1800’s before tortoise became a popular pick material and before celluloid or even plastic. They have been absent from the market for over a 100 years until now.
Bill Stokes personally hand crafts each pick to a fine finish with perfectly rounded and beveled edges creating a smooth, fluid feel when picking.
The Almost-Tortoise picks are available in 3 popular shapes: Triangle, Teardrop and Mando. The standard rounded edges can easily be modified for individual tastes with the Pick Shoppe "Pick Toolkit"which is available in the Pick Accessories section of this store. These picks are 1.3mm to 1.6mm in thickness.
